StyleID: Falling for Fall
December 6, 2010
Erica Bellman and Brie Taylor
We stopped Chantal Hoang (’12) on a brisk fall evening while she was en route to the library. Miraculously, Chantal makes floral prints and a cream appliqué skirt look cozy and autumnal. This CMC student's confidence and cheery personality warmed us right up!
We chose Chantal to be the first female student featured on StyleID column for the ease with which she mixes college casual with comfortable, chic beauty. It's hard not to fall for this chunky knit scarf and versatile cotton blazer.
Chantal, you're looking fabulous. Tell us what you’re wearing.
My boots are Steve Madden, and these simple black leggings are American Apparel. The skirt is Romeo & Juliet Couture, and the top, blazer, and knit scarf are from Zara, my favorite store.
What is your style inspiration?
I love photographs of everyday people, like the Sartorialist and Garance Dore’s. I also think Olivia Palermo has great style. I tend to go for classic, simple, and elegant looks.
Who on campus do you think has the most killer style?
There are so many people who have unique tastes in style! But I can’t help but think back to Amber Ariate (’10). I loved her fearless fashion sense…and her necklaces.
Which article of clothing could you simply not live without?
There’s this dress I love to wear. It’s short, tight, and covered in sequins. It’s a real statement dress—you can’t hide in it. I always feel bold and girly when I wear it.
What does a person’s style say about him or her?
Style is the first thing I notice about someone. I think a person’s taste in fashion can speak to their attention to detail and self-confidence. Even something like having the perfect fit is important when making a first impression.
If CMC were a fashion designer, who would it be?
Ralph Lauren...clean-cut and sporty.
