We've learned that Ethan Andyshak (CMC '06) will no longer serve as CMC's Director of Residential Life for the Dean of Students. It seems that Andyshak may have been one of the administration's eight "involuntary layoffs" meant to cut costs to meet declining endowment return revenues--though exact details of the termination are still unclear. What we know now is that Assistant Dean of Students & Dean of Returning Students David "Fid" Castro (CMC '99) will be assuming his responsibilities, responsibilities he is familiar with as a former Director of Residential Life.
In April, ASCMC conducted a student body survey that revealed 40 percent of students were either "dissatisfied" or "very dissatisfied" with Andyshak's role as housing coordinator compared to only 20 percent being "satisfied" or "very satisfied;" the rest were indifferent. In the same survey, only 4.7 percent of students were "dissatisfied" or "very dissatisfied" with Dean of Students' office and 19.6 percent were "dissatisfied" or "very dissatisfied" with the housing draw process--the process overseen by Andyshak. These results were not only published for student review but also provided to the Dean of Students for reference.
We'll be sure to provide updates on this situtation and on the layoffs generally as they become available.
