CMCNation.com Launches (and the 5C Webscape Update)

CMC.edu is still one of the worst, ugliest college website designs ever, so the Admission Office just launched CMCNation.com, a separately hosted website that aims to be "a gateway for prospective students to read, interact, observe and talk back to an ever-growing, ever-evolving group of current CMCers." Apparently a huge proportion of applicants, especially outside of the West Coast, never visit CMC before they apply, so they base their decisions on sources like Princeton Review, US News and World Report, and official school websites like cmc.edu. Maybe CMCNation will help with the latter. Maybe the Board of Trustees and Office of Public Affairs will realize we need to throw down a lot of cash and just make a new website. Maybe that should be a priority. Maybe they should stop wasting money on web design consultants and just get it done. Maybe that should have been a priority for years... Maybe we should look at our competitor institutions for inspiration. That's my rant.
Props to Adam Sapp in the Admission Office for spearheading CMCNation.com.
Elsewhere on the web:
thestaghen.com, by Carl Peaslee '11 looks interesting, if unpolished for now.
The Claremont Portside recently redesigned their blog, The Compass.
The Claremont Independent just released a new issue.
5Cene.com is under beta development.
The Claremont Political Attitudes Survey is currently underway. The survey was last completed in 1988, and both versions were written by Professor Ward Elliott.
The Forum is the only web-only Claremont Colleges publication we know of right now, though many Claremont students have blogs. If you'd like your blog featured here, or if you are interested in writing for The Forum, please e-mail forum@ascmc.org.
